Google’s latest year in search report reveals what people around the world are searching for. The annual list compiled by the tech giant covers everything from global events to movie releases.
Whether you’re looking for a five-letter word or a tidbit of information about an important event, Google can help you find it with its autocomplete suggestions and advanced algorithms. However, there are some searches that don’t actually lead to results.
In 2022, the most-searched word on Google was Wordle. This popular online game gives players six chances to guess a five-letter word, and it became a worldwide phenomenon in early 2022.
Another top Google search term was Ukraine, which referred to the conflict in Eastern Europe. It was also a major news story for the year, alongside the deaths of Betty White and Queen Elizabeth.
Finally, the most-searched celebrity was Johnny Depp, following his defamation case against Amber Heard in the summer. He was also the most-searched actor overall.
The most-searched words on Google for the past year were dominated by brand names, but other search terms included tools like translators and package tracking and local searches. This year’s Google Year in Search report also revealed the most-searched places on earth, including Buckingham Palace and Big Ben. The Great Pyramid of Giza, which remains fascinating for people 4,500 years after its construction, was also on the list.
